Let’s Discuss Your Project

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this?

On this website, most of the illuminated sculptures you see are what we call Lantern Installations. They may also be referred to as Lantern Displays, or simply Lanterns.

They are not the typical handheld lanterns, hanging lanterns, or paper lanterns traditionally released into the sky. Instead, our Lantern Installations are crafted into many different shapes and forms to tell different stories and create immersive visual experiences and night walk experiences.

They are called “lantern” installations because they come from the traditional craft of lantern making, even though they do not look like the small lantern shape many people usually imagine. In this context, “lantern” refers to the technique and illuminated art form, rather than to one specific form.

That is why Lantern Installations can appear as animals, flowers, themed scenes, or other large sculptural designs. They keep the name “lantern” because of how they are made, while their final forms are far more expansive and imaginative than a traditional lantern.

Most of our installations are built with a steel framework, LED lighting, fabric covering, and hand-painted detailing.

What is a Lantern Festival?

A Lantern Festival is a celebration built around illuminated lantern displays and shared nighttime experiences. Its roots can be traced back to traditional lantern customs in China, where lanterns were originally used in seasonal celebrations, religious observances, and community gatherings. In the traditional sense, the Lantern Festival specifically refers to the celebration held on the 15th day of the first lunar month. Over time, however, the craft and presentation of lanterns evolved from simple festive decorations into larger and more artistic displays, turning lantern viewing into a cultural event in itself.

In the modern sense, a Lantern Festival is no longer limited to a single calendar day. Today, it is often presented as a seasonal event that may run for 30 to 80 days, and in some cases even 100 to 200 days, allowing it to function more like a nighttime attraction or extended destination experience.

A modern Lantern Festival is also much more than a display of lights. It is an immersive walk-through experience where visitors can enjoy themed lantern installations, festive scenery, and a lively evening atmosphere. Many events also include food and beverage offerings, cultural performances, live entertainment, holiday programming, interactive features, and family-friendly activities that help create a strong festive feeling.

As Lantern Festivals continue to grow in popularity around the world, they are being adapted into many different formats and themes. Some are designed for zoos and nature-based venues, promoting wildlife conservation and environmental awareness. Others celebrate cultural diversity and cross-cultural exchange through storytelling and visual art. Some take the form of Christmas or holiday light events, while others are developed as carnivals, seasonal attractions, or touring exhibitions. This flexibility is one of the reasons Lantern Festivals are becoming increasingly popular across a wide range of destinations.

How long does the walkthrough experience typically take?

To create an engaging and well-paced visitor journey, lantern installations are typically arranged along a curated trail throughout the venue. Based on our production experience, we recommend a walkthrough duration of approximately 25 to 45 minutes. This range is long enough to create strong perceived value while maintaining healthy visitor flow and engagement.

Who is a Lantern Festival suitable for?

A Lantern Festival is suitable for a wide range of destinations that want to create a memorable nighttime attraction or holiday light experience and increase evening visitation. It is especially well suited for zoos, botanical gardens, city parks, theme parks, amusement parks, resorts, waterfront destinations, cultural sites, and other outdoor venues with room for a walk-through experience.

It can also be a strong fit for destinations looking to extend operating hours, build seasonal programming, attract families and tourists, or create new opportunities for food, beverage, retail, and special event revenue. Because each project can be customized in scale and theme, a Lantern Festival can be adapted to different audiences, site conditions, and business goals.

What types of venues can host a Lantern Festival?

Many types of venues can host a Lantern Festival, as long as the site offers enough space for a safe and enjoyable visitor route. Common venue types include zoos, botanical gardens, public parks, theme parks, resorts, heritage sites, shopping destinations, fairgrounds, and other outdoor attractions.

The ideal venue usually has a strong landscape setting, such as trees, lawns, gardens, water features, or scenic pathways, because these elements help enhance the visual effect of the lantern displays. Venues with an existing visitor base, parking access, and basic event infrastructure are often especially suitable.

Can the festival be customized to our theme or brand?

Yes. Lantern Festivals can be highly customized to match the venue’s theme, brand identity, seasonal programming, or storytelling goals. Depending on the project, the installations can be designed around wildlife, nature, holidays, cultural themes, fantasy concepts, local identity, or other creative directions.

We can also adapt the overall visual style and visitor experience to better align with the character of your destination. This flexibility is one of the key strengths of a Lantern Festival project, allowing it to feel site-specific rather than generic.

What is included in a Lantern Festival project?

The exact scope depends on the project, but a Lantern Festival project typically includes concept planning, production of the lantern installations, shipping coordination, on-site installation, and final presentation setup.

Depending on the needs of the client and the project model, support may also include layout planning, visitor route planning, creative recommendations, and coordination related to the event experience. The final scope can be discussed and adjusted based on the venue, timeline, and business goals.

What are the power and site requirements?

Power and site requirements vary depending on the size and complexity of the project, but in general, a Lantern Festival requires access to a suitable outdoor site, stable electrical supply, and enough space to create a clear and comfortable visitor route.

The site should be able to support installation access, basic operational needs, and safe visitor circulation. Natural landscapes such as gardens, trees, and water features are often ideal, but many different outdoor venues can work with the right planning. Specific power distribution and site requirements are typically confirmed during the planning and design stage based on the selected layout and installation scale.

Do you have a product catalog or a standard price list?

At this stage, we do not have plans to produce a full product catalog for our lantern installations. We also do not offer a fixed standard price list, because each project is custom-designed and handcrafted based on the venue, objectives, and theme preferences. While some design concepts may be adapted from previous work, the scale, layout, and execution are always tailored to the specific site and event goals.

In the future, at an appropriate time, we may consider developing a starter package that includes several theme styles for clients to choose from as a more streamlined starting point. For now, however, we continue to focus on customized project planning so we can respond more accurately to each client’s goals, budget, and location.

We encourage clients to schedule an online meeting with us to share their event goals, budget, location, and preferred themes. Based on that discussion, our team can quickly prepare a customized draft proposal with design ideas and pricing, with no obligation.

How much does a Lantern Festival project cost?

Project cost depends on the venue size, the number and scale of lantern installations, event duration, and the overall creative complexity. A typical project ranges from EUR50,000 to EUR350,000, or approximately USD57,000 to USD405,000. For a more accurate estimate, we recommend scheduling a meeting to discuss your specific needs.

Do you offer partnership or rental options instead of purchase?

Yes. We offer both partnership and rental models. These options generally require at least four months of advance booking. Please contact us to check current availability.

What is your lead time for production and setup?

For most projects, production lead time is approximately 30 to 60 days, depending on the scale and complexity. On-site installation typically takes 7 to 15 days, excluding shipping time.

What should be considered when selecting a location?

An ideal venue offers a natural landscape, such as lawns, trees, and garden settings, that complements the installations. Water features, including lakes, ponds, or riversides, are especially valuable because they create dramatic reflections that enhance the visual impact and strengthen the nighttime atmosphere.

How far in advance should we start planning a Lantern Festival?

We recommend starting the planning process as early as possible, especially for larger or more customized projects. Early planning allows more time for concept development, site evaluation, scheduling, production coordination, shipping arrangements, and installation preparation.

For projects with more complex themes, larger sites, or seasonal opening targets, beginning discussions several months in advance is often the best approach. A longer planning window also makes it easier to align the festival with the venue’s operational calendar, staffing needs, and marketing schedule.

How long does on-site installation usually take?

On-site installation time depends on the scale of the project, the number of lantern installations, site access conditions, and the overall layout complexity. In general, installation usually takes about 7 to 15 days for most projects.

Larger projects or venues with more challenging site conditions may require additional time. In some cases, certain oversized lantern installations cannot be efficiently transported in standard shipping containers, even after being partially dismantled. When that happens, we may recommend building those specific pieces near the site instead of transporting them fully finished.

If on-site building is required for certain large installations, the overall setup period may increase accordingly. The final installation schedule is typically confirmed during the planning stage, once the site layout, production scope, transportation method, and logistics arrangements have been determined.

What support do you need from the venue during setup?

During setup, the venue typically needs to provide site access, basic utility coordination, and a clear working schedule for installation. Depending on the project, this may also include access for vehicles, temporary storage areas, power access points, and coordination with the venue’s operations or facility team.

We usually work closely with the client during the preparation stage to define responsibilities clearly. This helps ensure that installation can proceed efficiently, safely, and with minimal disruption to the venue’s normal operations.

Can the festival be installed while the venue remains open?

In many cases, yes. Whether this is possible depends on the layout of the site, the scale of the installation, safety requirements, and the venue’s daily operating conditions.

For venues that wish to remain open during setup, installation planning can often be phased by area and schedule. This helps reduce disruption to visitors while maintaining safe working conditions for both the venue and the installation team.

Do you provide installation guidance instead of full installation service?

Yes. In many cases, we can provide installation guidance instead of sending a dedicated on-site installation team. This approach can help reduce travel and labor costs by allowing the client’s own staff to carry out much of the installation work with support from our technical team.

For most lantern installations, our technicians can guide the client’s team through the setup process and provide the necessary instructions to ensure the installations are assembled correctly. Only a small number of more complex or oversized pieces may require more specialized handling. This makes guided installation a practical and cost-effective option for many projects.

What happens after the event ends?

After the event ends, the next steps depend on the project model, timeline, and agreement structure. In general, this may include dismantling, removal, storage coordination, or preparation for future reuse, depending on whether the project is temporary, seasonal, rental-based, or part of a longer-term arrangement.

These post-event logistics are usually discussed in advance during project planning, so the venue has a clear understanding of the full event lifecycle from installation to closing.

Will the site need to be modified before installation?

Some venues may require small preparation before installation, depending on the site conditions and project scope. This can include route clearing, power access planning, surface protection, temporary working access, or adjustments related to safety and visitor circulation.

The exact requirements vary by site, which is why venue review and layout planning are important early steps in the process. Our team can help identify the main preparation points during the planning phase.

What materials are used in the lantern installations?

Each lantern installation begins with a structural steel wire and pipe framework. Energy-efficient LED bulbs and LED strips are installed within the frame as the primary light source. The structure is then carefully wrapped in high-quality silk fabric, most commonly satin, before being hand-painted to achieve detailed finishes and vibrant color.

Are the lantern installations waterproof?

Yes. All electrical components, including cables, connectors, switches, and lighting elements, are rated IP65 to provide reliable protection against rain and outdoor conditions.

How do the installations perform in strong winds?

Our lantern installations are engineered to withstand wind loads up to Level 6 on the Beaufort scale. Wind resistance is considered throughout the design and construction process. Installations are usually placed in naturally sheltered areas to reduce exposure, while larger structures in open environments may be reinforced with ground anchoring systems and tension supports. In rare cases of extreme weather, certain taller structures may be temporarily dismantled as a safety precaution.
